Capia pepper, which is expected to produce 131 thousand tons in 32 thousand decares in Bafra Plain, is exported to European Union countries - Samsun Director of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Sağlam: - “Today, it is sold between 10-11 liras domestically and 17 liras overseas”
SAMSUN (AA) - İLYAS GÜN/EMRE DİLEK - Capia peppers, which have started to be harvested in Samsun's Bafra Plain and 131 thousand tons of output is expected from approximately 32 thousand decares, are exported to European Union countries.
In Bafra Plain, one of the most fertile plains of Türkiye, producers have started to harvest capia peppers. Capia peppers, which are used in making tomato paste and chili powder and consumed by roasting, are in demand with their flavor and fleshy structure.
Director of Samsun Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Sağlam told AA correspondent that the Bafra Plain is mainly used for vegetable production.Pointing out that there was a total of 870 thousand tons of vegetable production in the plain in 2023, Sağlam said “Of course, when we look at our pepper production in 2023, we had approximately 168 thousand tons of pepper production on an area of 46 thousand decares. In 2024, the production area increased to 51 thousand decares. From here, we expect a total yield of 182 thousand tons. When we look at the production of capia pepper in this, we have an expectation of 131 thousand tons of capia pepper harvest in an area of 32 thousand decares.”
Sağlam emphasized that the capia pepper in Bafra Plain is of very high quality and said the following:
“We send capia peppers from Samsun to about 32 provinces, including provinces such as Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, which are famous for their peppers. Today, when we look at our approximate costs, we have a decare cost between 12 thousand and 15 thousand liras, but we have a domestic market sale of approximately 40 thousand to 50 thousand liras. When we look at it in kilograms, it is sold between 10-11 liras domestically and 17 liras overseas. Therefore, our farmers are experiencing a productive year in capia pepper.”
Adem Yanık, a vegetable trader and producer, said that they started harvesting capia peppers in the plain and exported to European countries such as Poland, Romania, Germany, France and Italy.
Yanık stated that they send peppers especially to the Eastern and Southeastern regions in the domestic market and said “We sell between 10 and 11 liras in the domestic market and between 17 and 18 liras in Europe. We buy between 7 and 8 liras from the producer. I also produced a thousand tons this year. The yield is a little low this year due to the drought. We anticipate that exports will increase even more within a week.”
Meanwhile, women working in the capia pepper harvest said that they both harvested and boxed the products in the field and stated that they earned between 1100 and 1200 liras per day.
