Growtech 19th International Greenhouse, Agricultural Technologies and Livestock Equipment Fair to be held in Antalya on 27-30 November 2019 welcomed 35 agricultural journalists from 21 countries at the “European and Balkan Countries Agricultural Journalists Forum” organized in cooperation with International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) and Association of Agricultural Journalists and Writers (TAGYAD) in Antalya between 4-8 November 2019. Representatives of the international press met with Chairman of Board for the Association of Greenhouse Construction, Hardware and Equipment Manufacturers and Exporters (SERKONDER) Halil Kozan at this special meeting. Chairman Kozan made a briefing about SERKONDER which has 43 members and mentioned about domestic and foreign works.
75 percent of the production is exported
Mentioning that 75 percent of the production is exported now, SERKONDER Chairman of Board Halil Kozan says, “We build turn-key greenhouses in several countries and send materials there. While domestic projects have been dominant previously, we are now conducting serious projects abroad. In fact, now we are exporting 75 percent of the production. We build turn-key greenhouses in several countries from Italy to Greece, Azerbaijan to India.”
Stating that they send materials besides the construction of greenhouses in many countries around the world and have the European technology, Kozan adds that their members have an annual capacity of 500 hectares, that is, 5000 decares. Indicating that they as SERKONDER provide trainings to increase quality, Kozan explains, “We have an important advantage with the geopolitical location despite our competitors such as Holland, Spain, China, and Korea.
Another advantage is our prices.” Because we can procure several raw materials in our country. These take us to one step further.”
We establish the Greenhouse Academy to increase women’s employment and raise awareness
Giving information about greenhouses in Turkey, Chairman Kozan says, “First of all, I would like to say that we are at an important position about geothermal heating. We can yield 60 kilograms of produce from the greenhouses in geothermal regions. We also use waste energies in heating.” Also addressing the importance of state incentives, Kozan adds that they surpassed Spain in greenhouse production with these incentives.
Kozan says there are 75 thousand hectares of greenhouses in Turkey and 15 thousand of them are modern greenhouses and highlights that they have carried out special projects for women. Chairman Kozan continues, “Our priority goal is to increase women’s employment and raise awareness. We are carrying out an important project to this end. We are founding the Greenhouse Academy to equip women in the field of greenhouse in agricultural sector.”
In this special meeting, a visit was made to the tomato greenhouse where coconut shell is used as an example of soilless agriculture.
Engin Er, Exhibition Director of Growtech: “We hosted this significant event joined by agricultural journalists from all around the world in Antalya before Growtech.”
Underlining that Growtech is an export-oriented fair, and this year they are preparing to welcome more than 90 thousand visitors from over 130 countries and more than 850 exhibitor brands from over 30 countries, Engin Er, Exhibition Director of Growtech makes the following statement about the importance of this special meeting organized before the fair: “Like we do every year, we will bring the professionals of international agricultural sector together at Growtech International Agriculture Fair this year. Synergy created with bilateral negotiations thanks to Growtech fair is turning into long-term commercial connections. That is why the fact that international agricultural journalists came together on November 4-8 in Antalya has been an even more important development for an efficient fair. Because we have had the chance to create public opinion among foreign press and to share preliminary information about our fair and events at the fair with the panels in this meeting and the visits to agricultural enterprises and greenhouses. This will both contribute to our fair in the international arena and enable Growtech to achieve export goals of the sector and our country.”
